Update: Shrank the head, decreased the arm length of the left arm, made eye look forward, twisted the nose to the correct angle, increased spyro size overall. Basically, made him look less like a caricature and fixed the perspective.
This is my official style. I also tried to use several light sources here. Oh, and its wallpaper size let me know if you use it.
Explanation: This is my favorite move from Spyro's fire element. This is 1/9 of a series where I paint a concept of the best element moves of both Spyro and Cynder. Next....Shadow Strike from cynder!
Time: About 11 hours. Program: Photoshop CS5
Comments? Or even better, Critiques? ----------------------------
I think the texture that makes him look tuff, the rock texture is some of the best I'v seen, the fire's wonderful, the dragon statue is very well textured as well, but I'm gonna point out perspective and body things I see.
So, first I see the closest paw to the camera. It looks a little off on shape and looks a little square and boney.
The first chest plat on his neck I think should be a bit more fitting because the triangle end should be 'moved over a little' to help show witch angle Spyro's head is facing and straighten out the neck.
The hind leg you can see looks a little funny. I sugest you fold the first 2 joints togethere instead the 2 last joins.
The wings look a little strange but can't point out what.
Also the ground in the lower left corner look a little of in perspective.
Also in Spyro's design info, his horns go up, down, up istead of down, up, up.
Yes, Improvments can be made, but that doesn't mean it's a harible or bad peice. On my opinion, on a chart of best Spyro art at the top to worst at the bottom, this would sertently be at the top.
I must say I love how you did the open mouth blaze effect. And I love the hues and shades you added to the rocks, definetely. I love how you did the claws and other tectures.
And, here we go with flaws. I love how bright and flowing you made the fire look, but I believe it should look more realistic, like the rest of the image does. And is it just me or does spyro seem a little scrawny? It could just be the angle and anatomy setup you used, I'm not really sure on that one. The eye seems to be a tiny bit big for the rest of his head.
I see some improvement in the future on this one. But it is a nicely done pic though, so don't get to discouraged.
I love all of the detail you added on this picture. It must've taken a long time to do! By the way I featured this picture on my dA homepage's featured devation widget! :3 You may not notice it though because my subby is going to expire soon. ^ ^;
